Drea Sanford has been running from her past and trying to redefine herself for what seems like forever. She's dead-serious about keeping her private and public lives separate, so when Cam Hardy, the man she's been sleeping with, breaks one of her rules and outs her to their friends, she dumps him on the spot. Next thing she knows, though, she needs his expertise ... because one of her clients dies under her care, and the police suspect Drea of murder.
Cam is a private investigator, formerly special ops, and he's never been one to tie himself down to a single woman. Nonetheless, something about Drea keeps him coming back for more, even after she dumps him and especially when he finds out she's the prime suspect in a high-profile murder case. Then a crime boss gets involved, threatening Drea's life. Cam couldn't walk away now if his life depended on it.
Entangled Publishing's Ignite imprint presents the romantic suspense Make Me Up by Avery Flynn, to be published on February 16.
Flynn writes a complex story, equal parts sweet romance, sensual intimacy, unexpected twists, and heightened mystery. Her characters are vibrant and compelling, innately likable despite (or perhaps because of) their respective quirks, hang-ups, and fears. The sexual intimacy underscores the larger romance and suspense stories, rather than dominating the novel, which is a laudable feat.
Other accomplishments include the chill factor of a very real "what if?" scenario: What if one of your clients suddenly died while in your company and under your care? Something that few of us stop to think about, but the situation makes nothing less than a fascinating story.
You'll keep turning pages hours after you should have put the book down to do something else on your to-do list to find out how everything turns out.
